Can I transfer my project to a new instance of REDCap?

Yes, you can transfer a project from one instance of REDCap and send to another by downloading the XML file for the project.

1. Go to the Project Setup tab by clicking “Project Setup” in the left-hand menu or the tab at the top of the page.

2. Click the Other Functionality tab.

3. Scroll to Copy or Back Up the Project and click the Download metadata only (XML) or Download metadata only & data (XML).

   1. Note: If you choose the “Download metadata and data (XML)” option, the file is subject to all policies and procedures outlined by the WUSTL HIPAA Privacy Office.

4. If you choose to download data, you will have the option to use REDCap De-identification options. Watch the REDCap in a Flash session Preparing De-Identified Data Exports to learn more.  If you do use these options, it does not guarantee that the data are considered fully de-identified. It is still recommended that follow all policies and procedures outlined by the WUSTL HIPAA Privacy Office.

5. To upload to a new instance or create a copy, log in to REDCap, select Create New Project

6. Enter a Project title and select the Project’s purpose

7. For Project creation option: select Upload a REDCap Project XML file (CDISC OD format) then click Choose File.

8. Navigate to the XML file downloaded from the original project. Select it and click Open. Click Create Project

9. If the XML was from an older version of REDCap, i.e., version 7, some settings may not transfer.
