Welcome to the Biobank Help page for OpenSpecimen Users at Washington University in St. Louis

Openspecimen is a vendor supported, open source application used to track the biospecimen lifecycle. OpenSpecimen is supported by Siteman Cancer Center and available for use by all researchers on campus.

History of OpenSpecimen

OpenSpecimen started as caTissue back in 2003 under the CaBIG program from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In 2009, NCI stopped funding of caBIG and caTissue. Krishagni redesigned the interface and developed a highly configurable application that is used by over 90 clinical research centers in over 20 countries including Emory, Johns Hopkins, Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
