26 - DPIP Quick Start Guide
This guide provides the basic workflow for logging Digital Specimens in BioMS and uploading files through DPIP. If you need detailed steps with step by step detailed instructions, please refer back to the DPIP User Guide.
Access BioMS Patient Checklist: Open the Patient Checklist in BioMS for the appropriate patient and study. If Digital Specimens are expected as Alternate specimens to Primary Specimens like Tissue Slides and you would like to log Digital Specimens, then update the Primary specimen as Not Collected by clicking the Not Collected icon. You can review guide on how to collect alternate specimens here
Open DPIP for Digital file/SPR submission: Now, the Digital Specimen is enabled. Click the Digital File Upload icon to open DPIP.
Select SPR file for Upload: Enter the last 2 characters of the Surgical Pathology Case Number (SPN). If the Surgical Pathology Report (SPR) has already been uploaded, check the confirmation box. Otherwise, select the file to upload the SPR from your computer. DPIP will now display your source file name and how it will be renamed for upload using the Alliance Digital Pathology standard naming convention. You will also notice that the checkbox for confirming that SPR is submitted has disappeared from the user interface as well.
Choose Digital Image File(s) for Upload: Enter the required information for each Digital Specimen (Last 2 SPN, Block ID, and Stain Type), select the digital file, and click Add to upload additional files (up to 15).
Start File Upload: Click Upload File and wait for the upload to complete. Do not close the DPIP window during the upload.
Wait for File Upload completion: Keep the DPIP window open until the file uploads are completed. You will receive an email notification on completion.
Enter Digital Specimen Collection Data: Once upload process is complete, (you will receive an email as well as confirmation on the user interface of the DPIP) come back to BioMS Patient Checklist and complete the Digital Specimen Collection details such as Quantity and Collection Date.
Save and Submit: Once step-7 is done for ALL Digital Specimens of the patient, please click “Save”. BioMS will automatically create a single electronic shipment and email the shipment manifest.
IMPORTANT: For Digital Specimens, the Surgical Pathology Report (SPR) must be uploaded through DPIP and previously uploaded SPR through BioMS does not meet this requirement. Uploading the SPR with the corresponding Digital Specimen files streamlines the repository's review and receiving process, ensuring all required materials are available together. Also, many of the collection event would have more than one Digital Specimen to collect and in those scenarios, make sure to repeat the steps 1 thru 7 before moving on to the final step 8.
